The Election Security Center believes that in order to have a healthy democracy, the American electorate must have confidence in the security of our elections. The lack of a strategic policy from the federal government to protect American elections from foreign interference has undermined confidence in our electoral system. Just as corrosive are the policies instituted by many state and local officials. Long lines, inadequate polling locations for underserved communities and arbitrary policies governing the counting of ballots are just some of the challenges voters face. The lack of strategic election security policy, together with systematic inadequacies in election administration, often results in the voter suppression of minority communities, the young, the differently-abled and the poor.
To best address these issues, we must educate the public as well as local election officials who are administering our elections. Local officials administer the majority of elections across the country and register the majority of voters. The American public must be educated about the vital role these local officials and their policies play in ensuring all citizens have an opportunity to participate in our Democracy.
To restore confidence in the security of our elections, the Election Security Center is dedicated to ensuring that all Americans understand that the votes of all citizens count and that elections be administered fairly to reflect the will of the people. This is how we protect Democracy.
